John J. Magnuson is a Professor Emeritus of Zoology, Director Emeritus of the Center for Limnology, and Emeritus Member of the Limnology and Marine Science Graduate Faculty.

  Magnuson's research activities focus on long-term ecological research on lake ecological systems, potential influence of climate change on inland waters, fish and fisheries ecology, biogeography and landscape ecology of lake and stream systems, and ecological dynamics of biodiversity and invasion.

His primary teaching has been Zoology 510 Ecology of Fishes and Zoology 315 Limnology, Conservation of Aquatic Resources. He supervises three graduate students, Amina Pollard, Theo Willis, and Karen Wilson.
