ZOOLOGY MAJOR REQUIREMENTS

Foundation coursework in Math, Chemistry, and Physics

College Algebra and Trigonometry

Math 112 and 113; or
Math 114; or
Equivalent placement scores  
(Calculus 211 or 211 can substitute)

General Chemistry

Chemistry 103 and 104; or
Chemistry 109 (Fall 2001 and later)  

General Physics

Physics 103 and 104; or
Physics 201 and 202; or (recommended primarily for Engineering students)
Physics 207 and 208

Zoology coursework – 30 credits required  

Foundation course(s) in Zoology

Choose one introductory course or course sequence from the following:

Biocore Curriculum                                        12-18 credits (recommended); or

Zoology 151 and 152                                    10 credits (recommended); or

Zoology 101 and 102 and Botany 130*         10 credits

*Botany 130, (5 credits) is recommended but not required for Zoology majors who take Zoology 101 and 102. 
Bot 130 counts automatically toward the zoology major if Zoology 101 and 102 are also taken.  

Upper level courses in Zoology

The remaining credits (30 minus selected intro bio option from above) must be intermediate/advanced in level.

Choose from any of the following:

Zoology 300-680 (6 cr. min. must come from lecture or lab or field courses);
Directed study/Thesis (up to 10 cr. max);
Upper-division biological coursework taken outside the Department of Zoology may be approved, upon advisor review, by exception (up to 6 cr. max)

15 credit rule - "15 credits of advanced work in residence, as designated by the department" are required
