Undergraduate Zoological SocietyThe Undergraduate Zoological Society explores the many diverse fields of zoology for undergraduate students interested in careers associated with zoology. We provide supplemental education in the field alongside undergraduate coursework, and we inform them of campus and community events that may enhance their understanding of zoology. We also want to promote socialization among fellow zoology majors. Along with aiding students we try to provide commuinty service by participating in ecological clean-up projects. To accomplish these goals, we intend to provide speakers about current research or occupations in zoology, to go on zoology related field trips, and to help students apply to graduate schools by having profiles of grad schools around the country. We plan to meet every other week throughout the academic year. Meetings may feature a guest speaker, such as a professor, graduate student, or professional who comes to speak about the research or work they do. Other meetings may feature Q&A or Panels on getting into graduate school and careers in zoology. About once a month we also take a trip. Recent trips have included: a river clean-up, visit to a biotechnology company, behind the scenes at Vilas Zoo, Shedd Aquarium, The National Wildlife Health Service, Valley of the Kings Animal Sanctuary, Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary, NEW Zoo, and Horicon Marsh. We are discussing trips to places like the fish hatchery, the Chicago Zoo, the Crane Foundation, the Milwaukee Zoo, or returning to other places. UZS Newsletters
